The Lofty 105km is returning for its fourth year. The pioneers and founding fathers of previous years shared great camaraderie and had quite the adventure all whilst raising money for a great cause. Now we are expanding for a weekend of fun riding and story telling around a camp fire… Why not?? We shall name it Gravel Fest…

SATURDAY Federation 30/60 & Night Grinder 40

Saturday afternoon kicks off at midday with your choice or mountain bike challenge rides. The Full Monty Federation 60km or choose between the Easy Rider 30km or Tech Savvy 30km course starting at 1pm.

Saturday night we will have catering and campfires and free camping for participants. The Night Grinder 40km will kick off at 19:45pm and promises 40km of gravel grinding bliss by the fading moonlight. So, bring your lights!

SUNDAY LOFTY 105 Gravel Grinders

The course is almost 99.9% off pavement. The event flavour is that of an eclectic mix of cycling modes. Think Gran fondo meets Audax come randonée/brevet with the freedom and tranquillity of being off pavement, “en grave” as the French term it.

Each ride distance includes some of the best off pavement roads in the area, centred around the South Lofty Ranges in between Monarto, Callington, Harrogate, Rockleigh and Tungkillo. Many of these areas and their inhabitants have been directly affected by recent fires that devastated the area and proceeds from the ride will go back into helping rebuild these local communities and fund their local firefighting amenities. (Raising for Rockleigh CFS support group)

There are four course options available, so there is an en gravè challenge to suit any level of rider:

•105km Lofty – the pinnacle challenge will start and finish from ride H.Q. Ride cut off times are in place and slow riders may be short coursed. (times are generous)

•65km Lofty Mid – starts and finishes from Ride H.Q. and takes in all the highlights of the course.

•45km Lofty Mid-Lite – a fun ride designed to give beginners or the time constrained to the sport a taste of the action

•21km Lofty FUN 21 – A shorty that’s fun and fast for all the family.

Being the third year of the Lofty 105 we entrust South Australians to get behind this locally run event by its community and impressively, entirely run by volunteers. The Lofty 105 is undoubtedly held in a uniquely stunning South Australian environment. Best of all, it is reached within a 45 minute drive of the city. The lands offer stunning views along ridge tops over the Bremmer Valleys, Murraylands, rocky creek lined valleys and at this time of year, lush farming pastures. The course winds its way through these many valleys, gulleys and hillsides as it undulates through the Lofty Ranges. At times you feel a million miles away from civilisation as you enjoy the freedom of being off pavement, (en grave) as you enjoy this unique landscape only a short drive from Adelaide. South Australia’s newest cycling challenge promises to provide riders with a supreme challenge, enjoyment and reward along some of the best off pavement roads around. The quality of the riding and the superb scenery, combined with the convenience off on course refreshments and meals upon finishing at Ride H.Q. make this a fantastic en gravè event for South Australians.
